Types of warehouse storage systems
An effective logistics system consists of efficient production, transport and storage. The warehouse system consists of various elements such as racks and containers and is used to store and manage all storage facilities and stock of goods. The stored goods often do not have a standard size and it is difficult to store goods of different sizes. Therefore we use LogiTower shelves, such as LogiTower Single Tower for long goods and LogiTower Single Tower for sheet metal storage. All the elements that make up a warehouse system are an essential part of intralogistics. A distinction is made between direct storage on the warehouse floor and racking. Many types of racking are used, depending on the goods to be stored.
What are the types of warehouse storage systems and why is it important to know them?
Storage systems vary according to the types of racking used to store goods. The selection of customised storage systems requires the consideration of many criteria. The right system should control the flow of materials and information and reduce the time taken to obtain material (production optimisation), in addition to ensuring that the correct storage capacity is maintained.
- Storage of sheets and bars – automatic single-tower racking from Logitower: this is one of the standard options for an automated storage system. The solution allows sheets, plates, long, heavy and unusual goods to be stored in a single tower and to be loaded and retrieved by a vertical lift. The entire system can easily be integrated with a laser or water-jet cutting centre, manipulators, crane, stacker crane, etc. The MultiLogitower can be expanded into many different types of towers, which makes it possible to store many unstandardised goods. The LogiTower design allows operators easy access to stored components and fast retrieval of individual items.
- MultiLogitower automatic rack: it is used for sheet metal, plates, logs, heavy and non-standard goods and molds and comes with multiple storage towers and access windows. It can be supplied in many variants, with several storage towers and access windows, it can work with laser or waterjet metalworking centres and peripheral devices such as warehouse manipulators, crane, stacker crane, etc.
- LogiComb – allows the storage of very long goods. LogiComb is easy to install, expand and operate, working with equipment such as forklifts, manipulators and warehouse stacker cranes, as well as a laser or water-jet cutting centre, which significantly increases its functionality, streamlines and speeds up the processes of intra-warehouse transport of long products. Its advantages? The storage system saves time spent on intra-logistics operations. The automated long product warehouse also increases the safety of goods and warehouse workers. It allows operators to safely load and unload long rods, tubes, panels or profiles, relieving them of the most dangerous storage tasks.
Tasks of warehouse storage systems
The different types of warehouse storage systems are used very individually, which means that different racks have different functions and purposes in each company. There are also many types of storage systems that are characterised by their versatility, and this is the case with flow racks. These are usually fitted with roller tracks which allow the pallets to be placed on the racking and then move to the end of the racking. This pallet flow allows the goods to be stored transparently on the FIFO principle. The aim of warehouse storage systems is to optimise material flows and to even out fluctuations between supply and demand.
